TestGrid in 2024: A Year of Breakthroughs, Recognition, and Growth

testgrid recap

As the year winds down and the season shifts, we at TestGrid want to take a moment to reflect on everything 2024 has brought our way.

The last 12 months have been a journey of growth and learning—we’ve expanded our capabilities, enhanced our product suite, and strengthened our collaborations meaningfully.

In fact, this year, TestGrid facilitated over 50 million tests for more than 50 enterprises worldwide, saving millions in testing and infrastructure costs.

These numbers testify to the trust you—our customers, partners, and stakeholders—place in us as a leader in AI-driven innovation. The most rewarding aspect of our work is the tangible impact we deliver; we’ve seen great strides this year.

Naturally, we’re thrilled to give you a closer look at the milestones we’ve achieved, the features we’ve introduced, and how we’re continuing to support our growing community in 2024. Let’s dive in.

New Tools and Features Built With Our Customers in Mind

1. Meet your awesome AI testing buddy: CoTester

In April, we proudly introduced CoTester™, an AI software testing agent that can be onboarded, trained, and tracked. It integrates easily into your team, adapts to your workflows, and handles tasks similar to those of an experienced human tester.
CoTester operates much like ChatGPT. It’s pre-trained in software testing fundamentals and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). It can generate test cases, help testers debug on the go, and execute test cases for websites and web apps on real browsers, aligning with user stories and testing scenarios you provide.

2. Discover smarter design checks with Visual Testing 2.0

In May, we rolled out Visual Testing 2.0 to address the critical need for maintaining visual consistency in apps. With its enhanced image comparison capabilities, you can now detect visual differences in specific parts of an interface, ensuring a polished design.

Visual Testing 2.0 allows you to compare only the areas that matter or exclude sections that don’t—like dynamic content, which changes with each execution and isn’t relevant to your test.

Integrated directly into your TestGrid account, this feature doesn’t require third-party plugins or downloads. Simply add a logger line to your existing code, and you’re ready to perform visual testing. Or, if you want, you can also conduct scriptless execution.

With this enhancement, visual testing automatically sets the first execution as the baseline. Subsequently, TestGrid compares the steps to the baseline and evaluates the results without requiring manual intervention.

If you want to update your test or modify the baseline, you can add steps or incorporate changes in the UI.

3. Cypress test execution support

This year, we expanded on TestGrid’s Cypress support, simplifying how front-end developers and QA engineers run automated tests on real browsers, both legacy and modern versions.

With this integration, you can execute Cypress tests directly from the cloud on browsers like Chrome and Firefox without additional setup or configurations.

Getting started is easy.

First, download the TestGrid JSON file, update the cypress_config_file path in your project, and place it in your project directory.

Next, install the TestGrid Cypress CLI, run the testgrid-cypress run command, and view detailed test results—including video logs, execution steps, and browser compatibility insights—on the TestGrid dashboard itself.

4. Simplify device integration with Remote Lite

In November, we introduced a new feature called Remote Lite, which allows you to integrate TestGrid’s Device Cloud directly into your website or application using an iframe.

Here’s how it works: Click the info button on the Device Cloud portal to generate a URL for the remote device. With a few simple adjustments to the parameters, you can embed this URL into an iframe on the product you’re testing.

Once set up, the device and its controls are fully accessible, enabling direct interaction from your interface. This functionality is compatible with incognito mode and works across different browser tabs. An API is available to generate the remote device URL for those looking to automate workflows.

5. Manage data at the version level with global variables

We’ve enhanced this feature for those frequently using shared data like web URLs, usernames, and passwords across multiple test cases.

Instead of repeatedly declaring or loading this data from external sources like CSV files, set global variables within your project’s version level, including various data types that are fully editable through the interface or programmatically during execution.

Once defined, they can be directly referenced and manipulated within test cases like any standard variable. You can also update their values or perform operations on them as needed.

6. Bring greater flexibility and control  in testing with new browser actions

While testing, you want to focus on specific tabs, change browser resolutions, and capture screenshots without restarting or disrupting the session. With this feature, you can. For instance, if you have multiple tabs open and need to move to a different one, you can now do it using the tab selection feature.

Additionally, you can adjust the browser resolution on the fly, enabling configuration changes for testing across various screen sizes. Screenshots can be captured directly at the desired resolution, saving time and ensuring accurate visual records.

Major Milestones Achieved in 2024

Although every month was eventful at TestGrid, we want to share five key moments that defined our year. In February, we assisted a Fortune 100 company in streamlining their testing processes through features like secure TG tunnel, device PIN management, biometric authentication, and CI/CD integration.

This transition eliminated unnecessary site-to-site tunnels, enhancing network security and reducing complexity. In just one day, the company experienced a 50% reduction in development costs and a 6X improvement in efficiency!

In April, we helped a 5G technology leader overcome challenges related to synchronizing cloud-based configurations with local environments by utilizing TG tunnel integration, Selenium, and codeless automation.

As a result, we reduced testing time by 60% and improved synchronization accuracy by 95%. The company also realized annual savings of $100,000, a 40% decrease in customer complaints, and a 70% faster rollout of new network configurations.

In June, we enhanced MDM testing efficiency for a major multinational semiconductor and software company.

By implementing extensive API automation, virtual USB debugging, and role-based access control, we reduced their manual operations by 40%, improved security by 30%, and increased team productivity by 25%.

In November, we secured a multi-million dollar deal with one of the largest telecom companies in the world, which decided to switch from their existing vendor to us for three key reasons:

  • We can accommodate more devices with less infrastructure
  • We can reduce testing costs by up to 50%, a crucial aspect for scaling operations
  • We offer a unified solution that covers everything—from low-code automation to performance and visual testing

With TestGrid, the telecom company can now conduct advanced network and geolocation testing, boosting service delivery even under challenging conditions.

Lastly, we’ve partnered with one of the largest global digital payments companies, serving over 1.4 billion people in India alone, to fulfill their app testing needs.

Through our on-premise real device infrastructure and cutting-edge automation features, we’ll ensure their platform performs flawlessly every second of every day.
