Overview:

User roles define the level of access and responsibilities assigned to different types of users within the TestGrid (TG) platform. Proper role management ensures security, efficiency, and smooth operations by granting permissions based on a user’s needs.

TestGrid has role-based access control (RBAC) to ensure that users have appropriate access while using the platform. The platform includes four types of user roles:

1. Company Admin:
Full Access:
  • The company admin has full access to the TestGrid platform within their organization. TestGrid will provide this account to create all other user accounts with different roles.
User Management:
  • Company admin can create, edit, and delete users.
  • Company admin can create cloud administrators, team administrators, and team users.
Team and Device Management:
  • Company admin can create teams and device groups.
  • Company admin can assign devices to team admins and team users.
  • Company admins have control access permissions for teams and devices.
  • By default, the company admin has access to all the devices.
Multiple User Roles:
  • Company admin can create multiple cloud admins, team admins, and team users.
  • Company admin can assign teams and devices accordingly.
Device Reservation Control:
  • If a Team Admin or Team User reserves a device for testing, the Company Admin has full authority to accept or reject the reservation request.

2. Cloud Admin:
Access and responsibilities:
  • Cloud admins have the same access as company administrators.
  • Cloud admins can create, edit, and delete users.
  • Cloud admins can create teams and device groups and assign them accordingly.
Key Difference from Company Admin:
  • The cloud admin cannot create a company admin.
  • Other than that, a cloud admin has all the same authorities as a company admin.

3. Team Admin:
Access and responsibilities:
  • He can remove any users from the team.
  • Has access to the devices that are assigned to the team that he is part of.

4. Team User:
Access and responsibilities:
  • Has limited authority.
  • Has access to the devices that are assigned to the team, which he is part of.

Note: All the users have access to TestGrid features like Device Cloud, Codeless, Appium, and Selenium Automation, Manual Testing, etc.

Conclusion:

TestGrid’s role-based access ensures that every user has the appropriate permissions to perform their tasks efficiently. By structuring the access levels as Company Admin, Cloud Admin, Team Admin, and Team User, TestGrid provides a secure and well-organized workflow for device management, team collaboration, and testing operations.

Happy Testing!!
